Focus of Language Perils

Through examination of words, terms, or concepts in a single language or across two or more languages, we seek to clarify market practices and concepts in insurance, reinsurance, risk management, employee benefits, healthcare, and related fields such as law and financial services.

We also seek to clarify concepts in other fields, such as politics and technology, when insurance and related professionals have a business interest in those concepts.

Thus, all articles must have a terminology focus. Reading current and recent issues of Language Perils is the best way to gain a sense of the kind of submissions we like. In addition, we can offer potential contributors help in selecting article topics.

Submission and Publication Languages

Submissions may be made in any language; however, as part of the acceptance process for submissions in languages other than English, we may require an English-language synopsis.

The language of publication is American English. If a non-English-language submission is accepted for publication, we will prepare the English-language version for publication at no cost to the contributor.

Length and Content of Submissions

Submissions should be approximately 600 to 1,200 words in length. No marketing of a product, publication, or service is permitted.

Editorial Policy

We reserve the right to edit any submission for style, grammar, punctuation, spelling, clarity, length, or focus.

Publication of any submission or inclusion of any link is at our discretion.

Payment

In lieu of payment, we offer publication of a link to the contributor’s e-mail in the byline for approximately two years and, in some cases, may prepare the English-language version of the contributor’s submission.

Bylines

In general, bylines are limited to the contributor’s name, organization, city, and country. At the discretion of the contributor, a link to the contributor’s e-mail address may also be included.
